Introducing Thin Mint!! Thin Mint showed up at a colony one of our incredible volunteers @maxinexfriends helps manage! One of the things about a managed colony is they really let you know when a newcomer shows up 🤣

Our rescuer was able to get her carrier and quickly get this gal inside! One quick trip to the aspca later and Thin Mint is ready to go! She’s a little gal, under 1 year old! She’s very sweet and gentle and is looking for a foster or adopter! Please reach out!

Miss Sebastian has had 0 adoption apps! Meanwhile the kitten she came in with who is just 3 mo tha younger was adopted in less the 2 weeks! Miss Sebastian is a little kitten herself just 8 months old and she is playful , vibrant, and very very gentle.

This stunning peaches and cream lady was found outside in the cold at just 7 months old. She is a woman cat of many talents including a dance form and technique that is the envy of ballerinas globally. Her acute agility and dexterity have her a shoo in for the next olympic event in worm chasing (she was too young this year). Her talents are not just limited to athletics and physical pursuits. Her voice is one for the history books, illuminating your world as she demands her kibble and pets. If you ever wanted all the makings of a lady in both form, manner, and composure look no further than this beautiful girl.

Spaying your cat is a kindness and vital to her overall health. She shouldn’t have to take care of babies she should get to be someone’s baby.

Just because we’re quiet doesn’t mean we’re not busy! We’re coordinating nearly 30 spay and neuter spots this week for our community members and fellow rescuers and a few of our own cats.

We’re schlepping some of our newest intakes to their vet appointments for less exciting things like eye checks and dentals.

We’re giving vaccines and snap tests and dewormers and working to update our protocols to make sure they’re in tip top shape.

We’re doing grant applications and trying to recruit new fosters and adopters. And we’re helping all these kitties.

Thank you to everyone who has liked, commented, shared, and donated to help these babies. Queen Frostine and Lord Licorice’s beginnings were anything but a gorgeous candyland, but we know that the only place to go from there is up.

After his surgery, it was clear something was wrong with Lord Licorice. At @amcny we determined the best course of action was a night of round the clock support. He is now back home and recovering from what has been the most stressful 72 hours I can think of. We are so grateful for everyone who has helped these babies settle in and find safety. They did not deserve to be left behind and forgotten with just a bag of dry food they couldn’t even reach. It takes a village but they are worth it.

No one knew they were there for DAYS and they were starving when they were found. The apartment was not in fit living condition - no litter box or clean food bowl anywhere, just living among the piles of stuff. The staff had started feeding them but when it was revealed the owner would not be returning, they reached out to us for help! Two of our volunteers were able to drop everything and go to rescue these cats but we need a place for them to go. They urgently need to be vetted!

No one knew they were there for DAYS and they were starving when they were found. The apartment was not in fit living condition - no litter box or clean food bowl anywhere, just living among the piles of stuff. The staff had started feeding them but when it was revealed the owner would not be returning, they reached out to us for help! 🥈 In the silver medalist spot is the fantastic fabulous Moonshadow! A brilliant void gal who has shown her foster locked doors are no match for her!

🥉Our Bronze Medal goes to Miss Francine! Another tuxedo who’s cautious at first and who’s middle name is Vigliance she’s just waiting for a home of her own!

We know first hand just how expensive vet bills can get.

Just a few months ago we watched as a 10 Lives alum and our beloved volunteers 8 month old cat came down with unexplained inappétence. 3 different vet visits and an overnight hospitalization later and he was back to his normal self! Luckily, they had insurance for their kitty and were able to have the majority of the visit covered, because 😅😮‍💨 those bills added up fast.

We know that insurance isn’t always possible for all folks and that’s okay!!! However, some plans with incredible brands like @havenpetinsurance can start as low as $10 a month for emergency coverage which is basically less than 2 cups of coffee these days (or let’s be real 1 large cup at certain places). While you hope to never use it, when you need it you’re glad it’s there! Some employers will even pay towards pet insurance coverage these days because they know how important this is as part of caring for our four legged friends!

He has a super unique and squeaky meow that makes him sound like a little kitten.

Opie’s favorite activity is wrestling with his cat friend Sushi.

In general, he ADORES other cats & gets excited just hearing them from a video.

Opie is a couch potato who loves to lounge in bed or on the couch during the day.

His favorite spot to be pet is on his head and face, which triggers instant purring and biscuit making.

Despite his love for lounging, he still loves to play, opting for his wack-a-mouse and wand toys.

We see it every day. Cats who become shut down or over stimulated or understimulated in the high stress shelter environment. Cats who, if given some time, would thrive in a home where they can be free of all the stressful sights and sounds and smells that come along with the shelter situation. It is not the shelter’s fault, but fostering helps to alleviate some of their burden. It acts as a meaningful step in the rescue to adoption pipeline that gives so many cats access to their second chance or as we say around here, their 10th life. If you can foster even just for a month, please don’t hesitate to reach out! Sometimes a week or two is all they need! And believe us, rescues like ours need you!

We said goodbye to Bella today 💔

Bella came to us just a few short weeks ago as an owner surrender after her owner couldn’t manager her diabetes anymore. This community came together for her. We found her a foster and got her diabetes under control. However, this weekend it became clear that Bella was experiencing some other severe symptoms that were greatly impacting her quality of life that were not related to her diabetes. Ultimately, the neurological episodes she was having were severe and untreatable and we chose to kindly end her suffering.

Although Bella’s story does not have the ending we hoped for, I am comforted to know just how loved she was in her last couple of weeks. I am proud that we as a rescue were able to come together for Bella and provide her with soft beds and yummy food and a place to rest. To be loved is to be known and Bella was loved and known by us all, even in the short time we had her.

Introducing the rare and stunning one of a kind Koala Bear Cat! Koala is an exceedingly rare hybrid of cat and bear. This meaty kitten cub is on a mission to be as close to a human as physically possible at all times.

Koala came to us from a rescuer who helped get him fixed for his owner and then they decided they didn’t want him anymore despite him being an absolute snuggle monster. When he arrived at his foster we also noticed he had some wonky vision going on.

He’s been on some eye medication but at this point we’re not seeing the improvement we want so back to vet it is. If you can help us cover the cost, as we don’t know specifically what kind of care he will need yet (we’re thinking he might need entropion surgery for his eyelids).

Born with severe congenital defects affecting two of her legs and her tail, Sandy never let that define her. Now adopted, adored, and permanently cuddled up next to a mom who dotes on her, this inspiring little girl is filled with an unwavering zest for life, and is living proof that adoption is for everyone.

Sandy is endlessly curious and playful, and somehow still manages to defy physics: whether that meant sitting in Tupperware or jumping into places she “shouldn’t” be able to reach on two functional leggies. She never needed all four feet like these other lame cats 😌. She’s always gotten into shenanigans just fine on her own terms.

These days she also goes by Beatrice, or Bee 🐝, for the tiny stripes on her legs and the way she buzzes when she purrs. (Yes, she gets songs. “Sandra Bee” is already on repeat.) When she’s not zooming around or plotting her next jump, she’s the softest, sweetest cuddle buddy.

You may remember him from our (many) fundraisers when he was a 6th surprise kitten who came from what we thought was a litter of 4. Now nearly 9 months later and he’s still here… and still waiting.

This past week, a couple of our volunteers got together to learn more about some of the best approaches to medical care for our cats! Gabby is one of our amazing volunteers and medial personnel helped train us in Snap Test holds, best practices for injections, and tips for pilling (and more). Beluga the kitten and Squid one of our newest intakes were in need of snap tests which we were able to perform and practice on! Don’t worry they got plenty of churu as a reward and the pokes were very quick.

We are so lucky to have such an incredible group of people who care so deeply about caring for these cats. Animal welfare isn’t just about snuggling kittens (although that’s a big part). It’s also about making sure our cats have all the medical care they need! If you’re interested in getting involved please let us know!! And a huge shoutout to our fabulous teacher!

We can’t believe this super sweet little bug still hasn’t been snapped up. While he can be shy at first, once he gets comfy he shows his people and other cat friends what a fabulous boy he is!

And if you need something to do that isn’t spiraling into the lake of despair that is the endless media turmoil these days, consider having a feline friend to at least join you! Fostering is a great way to have a kitty in the home without the lifetime (15-20 year commitment)! You give a cat a safe place to land while they look for their forever person. His foster, the incredible @maxinexfriends noted “something is really weird about his butt.” Well that was the understatement of the century.

Honey Bunches had developed a fistula and was diagnosed with Atresia Ani Type 2 or 3. A reconstructive surgery and treatment for the terrible giardia (which actually had saved his life) helped him grow! A second surgery for his neuter revealed that it wasn’t just his booty that was strange… he also has some issues with his p3nis. He’s since been neutered and the weird unused member has been removed. He’s truly a medical weirdo!

Despite all of that, he is incredibly loving and affectionate! He LOVES to play and cuddle and sit on laps! He’s only here today because of incredible donations, the dedication of his foster, and the fabulous medical team at @livsplainview and we are now here to say… He’s looking for his forever home.

I don’t know about you, but a lot of things feel really heavy these days. It can feel challenging to manage it all and wade through. One of the ways we’ve found to fight the blues is by helping cats.

No, really!

Whether it’s volunteering and getting to dedicate a few hours a week to helping a like minded group of people make a tangible difference!

Or fostering and getting to welcome a lovely cat in need directly into your home (cat purrs are literally healing).

Or donating and knowing the dollars you’re spending are going directly to good use and funding care for cats who need it.

It definitely gives us a serotonin boost!

We never want to create barriers for adoption! We want all our cats to find loving forever homes! However, in order for a small rescue like ours to help more cats, we do charge an adoption fee.

The average cost of fully vetting a cat can be anywhere from $75-$250 and that’s if there is absolutely no medical needs (which surprise, most cats rescued from the outdoors have some type of initial medical need!). By asking adopters to pay an adoption fee we are able to continue the work we’re doing. It also shows a good faith commitment to the cat they’re adopting! By paying a fee, adopters make an investment in their new family member. While of course money should not be a barrier to pet ownership, animals do cost money to care for whether it’s food, litter, or future vetting. Being able to think through a decision and make a financial commitment helps it feel like the big decision it is!
